As the warm days and cool nights of Fall approach the leaves respond by not producing as much chlorophyll. In the Lakes Region, the colors begin to emerge in early September and reach their peak in early-mid October. The foliage generally begins in the cooler Northern New Hampshire regions and works its way down the state as the season progresses.
